About the Role

The Cleaning Supervisor is responsible for leading daily cleaning operations across GBS campuses to ensure safe, hygienic, and welcoming environments for students, staff, and visitors. This role combines hands-on duties with operational leadership, focusing on:

  • Quality standards
  • Statutory compliance
  • Sustainability goals
  • Excellent service delivery

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervision of staff:

    • Oversee and motivate cleaning operatives across shifts, ensuring adherence to cleaning procedures and high standards.
  • Rota and staff management:

    • Plan and coordinate daily rotas and staffing, including management of agency support as required.
  • Cleaning oversight:

    • Supervise the cleaning of:
      • Classrooms
      • Offices
      • Libraries
      • Washrooms
      • Receptions
      • External areas
  • Compliance and safety:

    • Ensure compliance with:
      • Colour-coding standards
      • Infection control measures
      • COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) protocols
      • Health & Safety regulations
  • Inventory and equipment management:

    • Maintain stock levels of consumables.
    • Place orders and conduct monthly stocktakes.
    • Carry out equipment checks, report defects, and ensure safe operation.

  • Support roles:

    • Assist with general and deep-clean tasks.
    • Replenish washroom and hygiene supplies.
    • Support waste management and recycling processes.
  • Reporting and record-keeping:

    • Prepare KPI reports and maintain accurate records for the Facilities Manager.
  • Training and development:

    • Manage the training matrix.
    • Support induction and refresher training.
    • Promote continuous improvement in cleaning standards.

Requirements

Essential

  • Strong understanding of:
    • Health & Safety, COSHH, manual handling, and risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Cleaning methods, materials, equipment, and quality standards.
  • Excellent:
    • Communication
    • Organisation
    • Problem-solving skills (ability to prioritise and adapt to changing demands).
  • Experience with:
    • Rota planning
    • Work allocation
    • Audits
    • Compliance record-keeping
  • Proficiency in:
    • Email, MS Office, and basic IT systems.
  • Practical expertise in:
    • Use of professional cleaning chemicals appropriate for different surfaces.

Desirable

  • BICSc qualification or membership.
  • Certifications:
    • IOSH Working/Managing Safely
    • First Aid at Work
  • Previous experience in:
    • Education sector, public-facing venues, or similar environments.
    • Waste reduction and sustainability initiatives.
