Job Overview
- Role Title: Cleaning Operative
- Location: Liberton High School
- Salary: £26,205 – £26,525 (pro rata for part-time/sessional)
- Hours: 20 per week, 40 weeks per session (Monday – Friday, 12:00 – 16:00)
As a cleaner with the City of Edinburgh Council, you’ll be an essential part of our Facilities Management team, ensuring all properties are safe and clean environments for those who work or learn there.

You’ll deliver a vital cleaning service across council estates, contributing to a safe and clean environment for employees and students alike. Enjoy:

Key Responsibilities (Major Tasks/Job Activities)
- Emptying litter and recycling bins
- Cleaning all surfaces, internal glass, floors, furniture, fixtures and fittings
- Sanitation duties, including:
- Washroom/toilet cleaning and maintenance
- Replenishing consumables
- Removing body fluid/accident spills
- Handling emergency cleaning (e.g., graffiti removal)
- Maintaining cleaning equipment
- Supporting tasks across multiple buildings as required
The role adheres to strict cleaning performance standards, requiring you to cooperate with performance measurements to maintain quality.

Keyholding Role: As part of this position, you’ll be responsible for:
- Operating security alarm systems when opening buildings
- Securing accessible doors/windows
- Ensuring premises are locked and lit appropriately before leaving
Requirements
This role is regulated work under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. As such, the successful applicant must:
- Pass a PVG Scheme check (or provide an update). An Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required if the applicant has spent 3+ continuous months abroad in the last 5 years.
- An unconditional offer is conditional on satisfactory security clearance.
