Cleaning Team Leader

Salary: £33,500 per annum Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday Location: Bristol (BS4 – Sandy Park), with travel to sites across Bristol as required

Purpose of the Role

We’re looking for a Cleaning Team Leader to oversee workplace cleaning operations across Bristol. You’ll lead a team of Cleaning Operatives, ensuring excellence in standards while fostering staff development.

Key requirements: pride in work, meticulous attention to detail, strong verbal communication, and the ability to thrive independently and collaboratively.


Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Development

  • Coach and mentor Cleaning Operatives, including succession planning
  • Schedule and assign duties to ensure expert task execution
  • Conduct weekly inspections of cleaning equipment

Operations & Compliance

  • Monitor cleaning material usage to prevent waste and misuse
  • Oversee Health and Safety compliance, including COSHH and site-specific procedures
  • Monitor team adherence to company policies and methodologies

Performance & Administration

  • Manage holiday planning, performance assessments, and annual reviews
  • Maintain records for quality and cost control
  • Assist in hiring, training, and management reporting
  • Conduct HR meetings or administrative tasks as required

Resource Management

  • Oversee stock, equipment, and budgets
  • Function as a liaison between the team and management

About You

Essential

  • Valid UK driving licence (mandatory for travel across Bristol)
  • Significant experience in the cleaning industry, including supervisory roles (preferably in waste management)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently and in a team
  • Demonstrated safety compliance and legal awareness
  • Proven ability to build relationships across all levels
  • Basic IT literacy (essential for record-keeping)
  • Capacity to manage a small team (3–6 operatives)

Desirable

  • BICS (British Institute of Cleaning Science) accreditation
  • Flexibility in working patterns (e.g., shift rotations)
