Property and Project Management – Estate Position
About the Estate
The estate comprises over 2,000 acres, featuring:
- Let farms, moorland, and woodland
- 200+ properties, including listed houses, cottages, and commercial buildings
- A historical site, along with hospitality operations such as:
- Catering and tourism
- Hotel and holiday lettings
- Private water supply maintenance
The estate is situated in and around a local village, predominantly within the Yorkshire Dales National Park—a popular and high-traffic tourist destination.
My Role: Property and Project Management
Key Responsibilities
Property Management & Maintenance
- Deliver all reactive and planned maintenance, refurbishment projects, compliance updates, and capital works across estate properties.
- Operate property management systems to:
- Track and record repairs, maintenance, and compliance tasks
- Notify and coordinate obligations for tenants/occupiers
- Monitor dilapidation, safety, and efficiency
- Liaise with tenants and occupiers, including expenditure agreements.
- Appoint external consultants (planners, architects, engineers) for required specialisms.
Project Execution & Compliance
- Specify, tender, and administer all construction works via contracts/SLAs, including:
- Detailed technical specifications, drawings, and feasibility assessments
- Planning and regulatory compliance (local authority, consent, etc.)
- Conduct inspections and risk assessments, monitoring safe, cost-efficient, high-quality builds.
- Manage defect liability periods and resolve outstanding defects promptly.
- Ensure proper commissioning and documentation of property works to comply with legal/regulatory standards.
- Introduce sustainable practices wherever feasible within projects.

Health & Safety
- Approve contractors for all building works, enforcing JCT contracts where required.
- Maintain awareness of CDM Regulations, health & safety laws (buildings, organsics, materials).
- Review and submit Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for all works.
- Align with Devonshire Group Safety Management Systems.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
Qualifications & Knowledge
- Degree, HNC or HND in Construction (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience in construction, maintenance, or project management.
- Chartered status (RICS or CIOB) highly desirable.
- Qualifications in project management (e.g., PRINCE2 or APM).
Technical & Functional Expertise
- Experience working on estates/rural properties (including agricultural buildings, traditional/system builds).
- Deep understanding of:
- Construction processes
- Building regulations and compliance
- Proficiency in technical drawings and specifications.
- Crucial IT skills: email management, software applications, AutoCAD.

- Strong stakeholder communication – ability to engage with internal teams, local authorities, contractors, and tenants.
- Highly organised, able to manage multiple priorities amidst urgency.
- Flexibility with working hours as required by the operational pressures of the estate.
- Commitment to continued professional development (CPD).
- Full UK driving licence (essential for remote site access).
