About the Role
We are looking for a Client Engagement Lead – Growth to enable BetterGov grow sustainably across existing and new public-sector clients.
This role sits at the intersection of client engagement, account growth, opportunity development, proposition shaping and sales enablement. You will work closely with Directors and delivery teams to identify where BetterGov can add more value, turn strong delivery into future opportunity, and help build a more consistent and mature approach to growth across the business.
This is not a transactional role. Success will depend on your ability to build trust, understand public-sector priorities, engage senior stakeholders, shape credible opportunities and help BetterGov present its capabilities clearly and confidently.
You will carry a revenue contribution target, achieved through a mix of existing account growth and new client opportunities.
What you’ll do within our teams
Client engagement and account growth
- Work with Directors to strengthen and grow BetterGov’s existing client relationships.
- Support Directors in developing account plans, stakeholder maps and growth priorities.
- Identify opportunities for follow-on work, extensions, cross-sell and new service lines.
- Build trusted relationships with senior public-sector stakeholders.
- Help maintain regular engagement rhythms with priority accounts.
- Bring client insight back into BetterGov to inform future opportunities and propositions.
- Help ensure account conversations are grounded in client need, delivery evidence and practical value.
New client opportunity development
- Help BetterGov build relationships with new public-sector organisations and open opportunities in target markets.
- Identify target organisations, priority sectors and relevant routes to market.
- Develop warm routes into new clients through networks, partners, events and market insight.
- Shape early-stage conversations around client challenges and BetterGov capability.
- Qualify opportunities against BetterGov’s strengths, delivery capacity and strategic priorities.
- Support pursuit planning, proposal shaping and opportunity conversion.
- Maintain a clear and realistic pipeline of qualified opportunities.
Proposition development
- Work with Directors, consultants and delivery teams to turn BetterGov’s work into clear, repeatable offers.
- Identify common client challenges emerging from delivery work.
- Help package BetterGov capabilities into compelling propositions.
- Support development of capability one-pagers, case studies and client-facing materials.
- Work with delivery leads to ensure propositions are credible, deliverable and evidence-led.
- Help shape offers across areas such as digital transformation, data, cloud, service design, systems implementation, programme delivery, Defence and local government transformation.

Market and industry engagement
- You will represent BetterGov externally and help increase our visibility in target markets.
- Engage with public-sector networks, industry forums, supplier events and market briefings.
- Identify relevant events, partnerships and thought-leadership opportunities.
- Build relationships with partners, framework providers and ecosystem organisations.
- Share market insight with Directors and delivery teams.
- Help position BetterGov as a trusted, pragmatic and delivery-focused public-sector consultancy.
Sales enablement
- Help BetterGov improve how it identifies, shapes, tracks and converts new greenfield opportunities.
- Introduce practical account planning and opportunity qualification discipline.
- Improve visibility of pipeline, next steps, commercial risk and ownership.
- Support consistent use of CRM and opportunity tracking.
- Help Directors and consultants become more confident in identifying growth opportunities.
- Support bid/no-bid thinking, pursuit planning and proposition quality.
- Bring structure to how BetterGov turns relationships and delivery outcomes into sustainable growth.
Essential experience you will need to demonstrate
- Experience in UK public-sector consulting, digital transformation, technology services, managed services, professional services or a closely related environment.
- A track record of growing client relationships and identifying new opportunities.
- Experience working with senior stakeholders in central government, local government, Defence, health, devolved administrations, ALBs or wider public-sector organisations.
- Strong understanding of public-sector buying, procurement routes, frameworks and decision-making.
- Experience supporting proposals, tenders, client presentations or opportunity shaping.
- Ability to translate client challenges into practical, credible service propositions.
- Confidence working with Directors, consultants and delivery teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Commercial awareness, including pipeline management, revenue forecasting, margin awareness and qualification discipline.
- Ability to operate independently in a growing SME environment.

Desirable experience which will be beneficial
- Experience in digital, data, cloud, service design, systems implementation, product delivery or programme transformation.
- Familiarity with GDS-style delivery, service standards, agile delivery or multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience in Defence, central government, Scottish public sector or local government.
- Experience working with CRM systems, account plans and structured pipeline reporting.
- Experience creating propositions, case studies, thought-leadership content or market campaigns.
- Experience working in or alongside bid, marketing, partner or commercial enablement functions.
