Client Portfolio Manager (ACA / ACCA)
Basingstoke | £60,000 to £70,000 | Hybrid Working
Some practice roles are built around timesheets. This one is built around clients. If you're happiest acting as the trusted adviser rather than simply moving work from one deadline to the next, this could be exactly the sort of move you've been waiting for.
We're working with a growing accountancy firm that's continuing to invest in its people and client offering across the South. They're looking for an experienced Client Portfolio Manager to inherit an established portfolio and become the first point of contact for businesses that value long-term advice just as much as technical delivery.
Based in Basingstoke, you'll have the freedom to manage your clients in your own style while working alongside approachable Partners who are keen to support progression rather than micro-manage it.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What your week could look like
No two days are identical, but you'll typically be:
- Looking after a portfolio of limited companies, partnerships and owner-managed businesses
- Reviewing year-end accounts and corporation tax work before it reaches clients
- Helping business owners solve day-to-day financial and commercial challenges
- Planning workloads across your portfolio to keep deadlines under control
- Coaching junior members of the team and reviewing their work
- Building lasting client relationships that naturally generate additional advisory opportunities
- Working with a range of modern cloud accounting systems and practice software
You'll probably suit this role if you
- Hold ACA or ACCA qualifications
- Have built your career within UK practice
- Already manage your own portfolio with minimal supervision
- Enjoy speaking with clients rather than hiding behind spreadsheets
- Like helping junior staff develop
- Want a role where you'll be trusted to make decisions
