Account Manager (Client Team Officer) – Waste and Recycling Services

Are you passionate about driving service improvement, environmental sustainability, and commercial growth? South Derbyshire District Council is seeking an Account Manager (Client Team Officer) to play a pivotal role in shaping and developing our Waste and Recycling Services.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead the transformation of the Council’s Trade Waste Service, directly supporting major projects, guiding recycling initiatives, and leveraging performance data to enhance decision-making and service delivery. In this challenging yet rewarding role, you will:
- Act as the Council’s lead officer for Trade Waste Services, managing commercial waste contracts and contracts.
- Foster customer relationships while supporting income generation.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and contractual obligations.
- Lead waste and recycling performance reporting, including statutory submissions to central government and regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate closely with operational teams, contractors, and stakeholder organisations to deliver innovative and efficient services that support the Council’s environmental ambition and strategic priorities.

- Lead the development, management, and growth of the Council’s Trade Waste Service
- Manage and develop commercial waste contracts and customer accounts
- Head waste and recycling policy development and implementation
- Coordinate projects and service improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiencies and drive service transformation
- Monitor, analyse, and report on service performance data, including statutory submissions to central government
- Develop and maintain performance indicators aligned with the Council Plan and service objectives
- Support operational waste and recycling teams to ensure efficient, high-quality service delivery
- Engage with businesses, residents, and stakeholders to boost recycling participation and reduce environmental impacts
- Provide specialist advice to support strategic decision-making
- Identify opportunities for income generation, service enhancement, and continuous improvement
About the Role
As the Account Manager (Client Team Officer), you will serve as a critical link between the Council and its trade waste customers, ensuring compliance, driving commercial success, and championing waste reduction strategies. This role demands a mix of analytical, financial, and interpersonal skills—with a strong emphasis on sustainability, data-driven decision-making, and stakeholder engagement.

Requirements
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Proven experience in project management, service development, or contract management
- Strong analytical abilities, with the capacity to interpret performance and financial data effectively
- Outstanding communication and stakeholder engagement skills, ensuring transparency and collaboration
- Experience in managing multiple priorities while delivering meaningful service improvements
- A deep passion for environmental sustainability, recycling, and waste minimisation
- Commercial awareness and a customer-focused mindset
- The ability to influence change and work collaboratively across teams and external organisations
- Alignment with the Council’s values and dedication to excellent customer service
