Highly visible leadership role combining strategy, business development, client engagement, and thought leadership – focussed on growing our global position in flood, coastal and water resilience and climate advisory.
About the Role
As Climate Resilience Lead, you will lead Haskoning’s global market and growth strategy, driving strategic leadership, business development, client engagement, and externally representing our climate resilience capabilities.
At Haskoning, our approach to climate resilience is rooted in water, ensuring practical, large-scale solutions for flood risk management, coastal resilience, and integrated water systems—supplemented by climate advisory to aid clients in strategy shaping and investment decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Shape Our Global Market Strategy
- Define and evolve Haskoning’s global approach to climate resilience.
- Ensure focus on the right markets, clients, and opportunities.
- Set strategic direction and strengthen global positioning.
- Identify priority markets, sectors, and clients.
- Convert market trends, policies, and investment insights into value propositions, market growth plans, and strategic opportunities.
Drive Growth and Business Development
- Build a robust pipeline of strategic business opportunities:
- Develop and maintain a pipeline for high-impact projects.
- Support major pursuits by creating winning strategies and client engagement plans.
- Collaborate with international business development and marketing teams to secure projects.
Develop Strategic Client Relationships
- Strengthen Haskoning’s presence through senior-level client/partner engagement:
- Build relationships with key clients, investors, public authorities, and stakeholders.
- Refine client account strategies to meet major client needs.
- Ensure our services and innovations align with client demands.

Lead Industry Engagement and Thought Leadership
- Represent Haskoning’s global climate resilience agenda:
- Act as external ambassador for climate resilience innovation.
- Enhance visibility through events, industry partnerships, and publications.
- Position Haskoning as a trusted advisor in priority markets.
Connect Expertise Across Global Teams
- Foster a global Climate Resilience community:
- Integrate capabilities across regions and disciplines.
- Encourage collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
- Support essential future capabilities to meet market needs.
Where You’ll Work
You will join Haskoning, an independent, employee-owned international consultancy specializing in engineering design, consultancy, and technology solutions.
Haskoning operates under the mission "Enhancing Society Together", working with clients worldwide in:
- Infrastructure & mobility
- Climate resilience
- Renewable energy
- Industrial decarbonization
- Sustainable solutions
This role reports directly to the Strategy Director – Water & Maritime and is based in either the Netherlands or United Kingdom with mandatory international travel.
You’ll Bring
- Significant experience in strategic/commercial leadership or business development, preferably within global advisory, engineering, or consultancy.
- Strong expertise in climate resilience, particularly flood/coastal risk and water management systems.
- Proven record of building markets, developing high-value opportunities, and winning transformational projects.
- Extensive external network in clients, partners, and sectoral investors.
- Ability to operate globally, leading cross-functional teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Highly commercial mindset with strong client focus and capacity to convert strategy into measurable results.
- Degree in civil engineering, environmental sciences, or a related discipline.
- Legal eligibility to work in Netherlands or UK.
