Clinical Coder (Trainee Clinical Coder)

Clinical Coding Officer Role – Temporary/Fixed Term Post

Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic individual to join our well-established Clinical Coding Department at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Denbighshire.

The successful candidate will extract medical terms from clinical documents and translate them into clinical codes to record hospital activity at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.

Note for Trainee Applicants

Trainee Clinical Coders will be considered if we are unable to fill the role with a Qualified Clinical Coder. Trainee Clinical Coders will initially be placed on a Band 3 pay structure before progressing to Band 4 upon gaining NCCQ status.

  • The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role, though English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Requires excellent knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Keen attention to detail is essential for this role.
  • Responsibility to stay updated on developments in clinical coding through:
    • Internal training programs
    • Specialty training courses (may involve travel)
  • If appointed as a trainee, access to a comprehensive training package, including:
    • Coding Standards Course
    • Internal trainee development course with 1:1 support from experienced mentors
