Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Clinical Coding professional to join the Northern Care Alliance (NCA) Clinical Coding Team as a Clinical Coding Liaison Specialist.

At NCA, you'll work within one of the largest and most diverse clinical coding services in the NHS, covering a wide range of specialties from obstetrics and paediatrics to neurosurgery, spinal, vascular and major trauma. This role offers the opportunity to apply advanced coding expertise while working closely with clinical teams to improve documentation quality and coded data.

We are seeking an experienced, accredited clinical coder who holds the National Clinical Coding Qualification and has strong multi-specialty experience, alongside proven leadership and influencing skills.

As a Clinical Coding Liaison Specialist, You Will:

  • Provide expert clinical coding advice across a wide range of specialties, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Act as a key link between clinical teams and the coding service, promoting high-quality documentation.
  • Line manage, mentor and support clinical coding staff, strengthening capability.
  • Contribute to clinical coding and wider data quality improvement work.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Coding Liaison Specialist has the responsibility to lead on engagement & collaboration with the clinical groups. To communicate complex coding rules, standards, and information to ensure the coded data accurately reflects the clinical care provided.

The post holder will ensure accurate, timely and robust coded data to support the Organisation's data, and correct reimbursement through NHS Payment Systems.

The post holder will work closely with clinical colleagues to advise on data recording and documentation practices to ensure clinical coding and data quality principles are adhered to.

The post holder will work as part of the central coding team alongside other coders and additionally with other liaison specialists as part of a more expert team sharing knowledge and providing support.
