Clinical Educator
Clinical Educator (Intensive Care)
The post-holder will be an experienced, knowledgeable practitioner who provides clinically based practice development and education to the non-medical workforce. They will role-model best, evidence-based professional practice, and offer clinical education support for all learners at the bedside—the core component of this position.
The clinical educator is responsible for:
- Identifying and supporting learning needs within their designated clinical area.
- Creating a positive learning environment by acting as an expert resource, ensuring training remains appropriate and up-to-date, and fostering collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and senior colleagues.
They will develop and deliver specific education interventions, potentially in partnership with the senior practice development and education team. Assisting in:
- Coordinating the delivery and evaluation of training.
- Ensuring training is grounded in good clinical practice.
- Supporting the education element of clinical governance and quality assurance.
Key Requirements
All candidates must possess a UK-recognised Intensive Care Course at level 6 or 7 to be considered for this role.
Core Responsibilities
- Act as an exemplary role model for clinical practice and the Trust’s values.
- Support independent learning by facilitating learner growth and autonomy.
- Work to a structured job plan to enhance staff development, patient safety, and clinical experience.
- Engage in regular liaison with the Practice Development Nurse (PDN) for guidance, oversight, and alignment with the organisational education strategy.
- Balance clinically focused education delivery with administrative responsibilities efficiently.
- Promote an inter-professional learning environment.
- Deliver education programmes across divisional and cross-divisional levels, supporting organisation-wide priorities.
- Collaborate with local and corporate practice development teams.
- Proactively anticipate and respond to the evolving educational needs of the service.
- Strengthen inter-professional partnerships while working across professional and organisational boundaries.
- Participate in audit, service improvement, and relevant research initiatives.
- Maintain clinical credibility via regular clinical practice and shift working.
