NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The Role

Medical equipment is used for medical treatment and diagnosis of patients in all areas of a hospital and beyond. Having fully functional and accurate medical equipment is essential for the safe diagnosis and treatment of patients, and it is the Medical Equipment Management service that is responsible for that equipment.

The Medical Equipment Management service is a team of highly trained clinical engineer technologists who are experts on medical equipment. We work across ten hospital sites in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, managing the full life cycle of over 55,000 medical equipment devices, completing over 60,000 jobs per year.

You will work as part of a team of clinical engineer technologists based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. You will have a permanent contract with a 36-hour working week that is Monday to Friday. Every day is different, you will help to ensure that medical equipment is available in clinical areas, cover the reception, perform tests on low risk and non-complex medical equipment, or manage the organisation and ordering of parts for medical equipment. You will receive training on medical equipment management systems and processes, and on the testing of low-risk and non-complex medical equipment, which will enable you to commission, calibrate, performance assure and repair that equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the lifecycle management of low-risk, non-complex medical equipment across a range of clinical environments including wards and critical care areas
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance, safety testing, fault finding, repairs, commissioning and decommissioning of medical devices in line with established procedures
  • Maintain accurate records on the Asset Management System, ensuring all equipment activity is documented and compliant with governance requirements
  • Log service requests, prioritise work appropriately and liaise with clinical teams and external service providers to support timely resolutions
  • Assist with stock control activities including ordering, receiving and monitoring parts, consumables and equipment supplies
  • Provide support to the medical device library service, including equipment deliveries, collections, cleaning and decontamination activities
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across NHSGGC to help ensure medical equipment remains safe, reliable and available for patient care

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required to Do the Job
