About the Liver Service

The Liver service is probably the largest comprehensive clinical liver programme in the world. It provides an integrated investigation and treatment service for all types of acute and chronic liver diseases as well as research into pathogenesis and future patient management. Routine and emergency cases are accepted from District HA and Supra-regional contracts as appropriate to the core services of liver transplantation, hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery, liver intensive care and general hepatology. There is also close co-operation with the Paediatric Liver Services.

The HPB service currently performs around 600 major resections each year.

The adult liver service is comprised of 4 core services – hepatology, liver intensive care, liver transplantation and hepatobiliary medicine/surgery. These services closely inter-digitate offering seamless patient care. The services are supported by CPA approved laboratory services in histopathology, viral hepatitis testing and immunosuppressive monitoring. There are also close links with 3 dedicated liver radiologists.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
