An exciting opportunity has arisen for resident doctors to join the Tier 1 paediatric and neonatal team. Successful applicants will gain experience in the sub-regional neonatal intensive care centre (SuRNICC) and the Children’s Unit in North Wales.

Applicants are invited for a full-time Tier 1 post. Successful applicants will join either the 1:9 neonatal rota or the 1:10 paediatric rota.

The current applicable pay scales are displayed above; however, these may change upon implementation of the framework agreement for reform to the terms and conditions of service for resident doctors and dentists in Wales. Glan Clwyd Hospital is situated in the village of Bodelwyddan, close to the towns of St Asaph and Rhyl, on the North Wales coastline. The Health Board serves a catchment population of over 250,000 which can double in the busy holiday season. Some of the most beautiful countryside and scenery in Britain is at hand, notably the Snowdonia National Park providing opportunities for outdoor activities and water sports. The area is also rich in history with many great castles, stately homes and gardens close by. Shopping centres, restaurants and cinemas are available at the local towns of Rhyl, Prestatyn, Colwyn Bay and Llandudno. Liverpool and Manchester and their airports are about one hour drive away. There is also a direct rail service to the Midlands and London, the nearest station is in Rhyl enabling travel to London in 3½ hours.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

In neonates, you will be responsible for attending deliveries, acute admissions on our unit and their management as well as examination of new-borns on the post-natal ward. There are opportunities to sit in on both baby clinics and joint specialist clinics to gain out-patient experience. The clinical duties are shared between the nine first on call staff and are rotated on a regular basis.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • MB BS (or equivalent)
  • Registration with the GMC
  • Evidence of training progression

Desirable criteria

  • Additional qualifications. APLS

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Completed foundation program (or equivalent outside the UK)

Desirable criteria

  • Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).

Knowledge

Essential Criteria

  • Evidence of understanding and knowledge of specialty

Clinical Skills

Essential criteria

  • Competent in history taking and examination skills.
  • Competent in basic life support and resuscitation skills.

Communication Skills

Essential criteria

  • Fluent in English. Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Able to establish good working relationships with all members of the multidisciplinary team.

Personal Qualities

Essential Criteria

  • Good organisational skills and time management.
  • Able to function successfully under pressure.
