Clinical Lead Onyx Ward

Clinical Lead – 22.5 Hours per week

About Onyx Ward

Onyx Ward is a purpose-built low secure ward for up to 7 men diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The ward was designed to meet the specific needs of offenders with ASD, providing an environment conducive to treatment and recovery. Features include:

  • Patient-focused living spaces, each with their own lounge and garden areas
  • Adjustable temperature and light controls to support comfort

Brooklands Hospital is committed to delivering the highest standard of care for individuals in an inpatient setting. The goal is to equip them with essential skills to thrive and maintain a fulfilling quality of life.


The Role

This critical Clinical Lead position focuses on clinical leadership, patient safety, and quality of care. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting clinical leadership on the ward:
    • Overseeing safety and quality aspects of patient care
    • Managing incidents timely and effectively
    • Collaborating with the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to drive co-produced services, ensuring patient input

  • Working closely with the Ward Manager, integrating into a full MDT while supported by clinical leads from other wards

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will lead clinical roles across nursing care planning, from pre-admission to discharge. Duties include:

  • Leading all nursing care planning processes, including:
    • Pre-admission assessments and specialist programme development
  • Clinical development and supervision of all nursing staff in secure-focused settings at Brooklands
  • Providing cover for the Clinic Ward Manager as required

Person Specification

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Essential
    • Post-registration experience in a nursing care setting
    • Interest and commitment to working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Preferred
    • Clinical leadership and management experience
