The Strategic Clinical Network for Women's Health is seeking an enthusiastic health professional, to help support the Clinical Lead, to ensure the successful delivery of the Women's Health Plan for Wales.

There are 1.6 million women and girls living in Wales, making up 50.7% of the population. Although women on average live longer than men, evidence has shown that those extra years are more likely to be lived in poor health. This inequality is increased when we consider deprivation, with women from ethnically diverse backgrounds more likely to live in an area of deprivation.

The Strategic Clinical Network for Women's Health is 1 of 11 Networks within the NHS Executive for Wales. The main purpose of the Clinical Networks is to enhance the quality and safety of care, leading to improved and more equitable outcomes, better access, and enhanced patient experience. Additionally, it aims to reduce variation and improve population health.

The Clinical Networks will achieve these goals through strong leadership, enabling, supporting, and directing NHS Wales to transform clinical services by national priorities and care standards.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a person that will:

  • Work closely with the National Strategic Clinical Lead for Women's Health Network
  • Be a Clinician with a strong history of working in and delivering projects around Women's Health in Wales
  • Comfortable working at a National Strategic level
  • Represent the whole health board organisation, primary, secondary and community care
  • Have comprehensive knowledge of local pathways, the challenges that face women and their health board
  • Be aware of national developments in Women's Health across the whole 4 Nations
  • Good working knowledge of Welsh is preferable

Role and Responsibilities of the Health Board Clinical Lead:

The immediate focus of the health board Clinical Lead will be to deliver on Women's Health Hubs in partnership with the Women's Health Network

Working for our organisation

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

Our services are provided in:

  • Four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest
  • Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
  • Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
  • Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services
