Role Overview
As a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist or Band 6 (developing role), you will play a key role within a dynamic multidisciplinary team, delivering expert assessment, management, and coordination of care for patients across our Chelsea (London) and Sutton (Surrey) sites. You will contribute to the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
This is a varied and rewarding role that combines advanced clinical practice with leadership and service development. Alongside providing high-quality patient care, you will support the growth of colleagues through teaching and mentorship, both formally and informally. You will also take an active role in service improvement, leading audits, contributing to research, and driving initiatives that enhance patient care and outcomes.
The successful applicant will be based primarily at their preferred site, with flexibility to work across both locations in line with service needs.
The Role
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Pain Management plays a pivotal role in delivering and enhancing specialist pain management services across The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, supporting both inpatient and outpatient care at the Chelsea and Sutton sites. This advanced clinical role focuses on the assessment and management of acute, chronic, and complex pain in patients with cancer, including those referred to specialist clinics such as chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, neuromodulation, and capsaicin services. As an expert practitioner, the CNS will provide direct patient care while also leading service development initiatives, promoting excellence in cancer pain management through clinical leadership, innovation, education, and research.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
