Clinical Nurse Specialist - Mental Health Professional
Mental Health Professional (Core24/Emergency Department Liaison Team) – Permanent Full Time
About the Role
Are you a senior clinical professional in acute care with experience in mental health assessments and crisis intervention? If you thrive under pressure, enjoy dynamic environments, and deliver high-stakes assessments, this role is for you.
The Mental Health Professional (Core24/Emergency Department) provides 24/7 expert input to the Edinburgh Department (ED), conducting skilled assessments, risk formulations, and high-quality care plans for acute mental health presentations. The role is fast-paced, demands excellent assessment and communication skills, and requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to deliver superior patient care.
As part of the PLAN-accredited Liaison Psychiatry Service at Addenbrookes Hospital, the position offers the opportunity to expand out-of-hours support to patients across the hospital—a dynamic addition to the core24 initiative.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessment & Formulation: Undertake biopsychosocial assessments and develop risk management plans aligned with CPFT Clinical Risk Assessment & Management Policy for adults.
- Emergency Presentation Management: Provide timely expert input to the ED, supporting patients with mental health crises.
- Collaborative Practice: Work closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and OTs within the nationally recognised Liaison Psychiatry Service.
- Shift-Based Delivery: Work flexible 10-hour shifts across a 24/7 rota, ensuring continuous service accessibility.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
