Pharmacist Opportunities – Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust (BHFT)

If so, we have exciting opportunities for you at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust (BHFT). We are recruiting Pharmacists at:

  • Band 6 (entry level)
  • Band 6 or Band 7 (depending on experience)

About the Role

Our Pharmacy Department is a vibrant, forward-thinking team with a strong emphasis on collaboration and professional growth. Through our structured rotation programme in Clinical Pharmacy Services, you will gain valuable experience across a range of specialties.

We are fully committed to your training and development, supporting you to:

  • Excel in patient care
  • Progress your career with opportunities to:
    • Study for a post-graduate certificate, diploma, or independent prescribing qualification
    • Complete the general level competency framework (subject to funding)

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Ward-Based Duty

  • Deliver a high-quality ward-based clinical pharmacy service through structured rotations, including:
    • Drug chart reviews
    • Drug history taking
    • Medicines reconciliation
    • Supply of medications
    • Patient consultations
    • Medicines optimisation
    • Discharge Medication Service (DMS)

  • Provide pharmaceutical advice on:
    • Supply and clinical issues to healthcare professionals
    • Medication-related guidance to patients (focusing on medicines started, stopped, or changed during admission, including side-effect profiles to maximise patient benefits)

Training & Support

  • Supervise junior pharmacy technicians and assistants
  • Support the education of:
    • Pre-registration pharmacists
    • Staff in training grades

Dispensary Services

  • Participate in dispensary operations including:
    • Dispensing
    • Clinical verification
    • Prescription review
    • Accuracy checking
    • Patient consultations

Service Continuity & Flexibility

  • Ensure 24/7 service delivery by participating in:
    • Late-night shifts
    • Weekend rostering
    • Bank holiday cover
