Clinical Pharmacist (Bank) – Lancaster Hospital
Overview
The Lancaster Hospital, part of Circle Health Group, the UK’s leading independent healthcare provider, is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist to join their Pharmacy Department on a bank shifts basis.
This role involves supporting incremental staffing during busy periods, covering annual leave, and managing unexpected absences. Salary: Up to £25.00 per hour (dependent on experience, training, and qualifications).
Responsibilities
- Conduct medication reviews for inpatients and outpatients, identifying interactions, contraindications, and medicines optimisation opportunities.
- Provide patient-centred advice on treatment plans, including side effects, compliance, and lifestyle considerations.
- Support safe prescribing through reconciliation, clinical screening, and dose adjustments.
- Review and authorise prescriptions in line with clinical guidelines, formulary restrictions, and regulatory requirements.
- Promote safe and cost-effective medicines use by ensuring adherence to local and national policies.
- Collaborate with procurement, stock control, and pharmacy technicians to maintain medicine availability and supply continuity.
- Monitor and report medication incidents, near misses, and adverse drug reactions in accordance with hospital protocols and MHRA guidance.

Requirements
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- A degree in Pharmacy (MPharm, BSc, or BPharm).
- GPhC registration as a qualified pharmacist.
- Previous Clinical Hospital Pharmacy experience.
- Strong therapeutic knowledge, including clinical guidelines and pharmaceutical legislation.
- Excellent communication and critical decision-making skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Confident in using electronic prescribing and medication administration systems (e.g., EPMA).
