About the Role
At Cleveland Clinic Health System, we drive healthcare innovation every day. Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital fosters a culture of excellence, collaboration, and patient-centered care—now seeking a Clinical Pharmacist - Inpatient Operations to join our Magnet-designated team.
This newly created full-time (7/7-off) role supports the expanding inpatient pharmacy services at Avon Hospital, ensuring safe, accurate, and efficient medication delivery across our cutting-edge healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
The Clinical Pharmacist will:
- Provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care in a collaborative inpatient setting, partnering with nurses, physicians, and technicians to optimize therapy and patient outcomes.
- Review and verify medication orders for accuracy while adhering to state/federal regulations.
- Dispense and administer medications safely, using pharmacy carousel technology and Best Practices.
- Support non-hazardous sterile compounding requirements.
- Manage inpatient dispensing workflows, ensuring timeliness and regulatory compliance.
- Operational oversight for Hospital Care at Home, coordinating medication continuity between complex care at home and traditional inpatient settings.
- Educate and train clinical teams, students, or residents as needed.
- Document and track pharmacist interventions and services in patient records.
- Foster a patient-centered culture with clear, compassionate interactions.
- Promote cost-effective care and optimize medication use policies for LTCF patients.
- Adhere to hospital policies on drug administration, waste management, and accountability.
- Berning Hazardous Drugs addressed in compliance with OSHA standards.

Location & Schedule
- Facility: Avon Hospital (under Ohio Health Leadership)
- Department: Pharmacy
- Rotation: 7-on/7-off (9 hour shifts):
- Monday–Thursday, 11:30 AM – 10:00 PM
- Friday–Sunday, 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM
- Total Work per Pay Period: 72 hours (0.9 FTE, assigned to SP1)
- Paid Full Time Benefits Eligibility: ✓ SP1 (15% pay premium)

Minimum Requirements
- Educational Requirements:
- Degree: Pharmacist (PharmD) or BS in Pharmacy (accredited college of pharmacy)
- Valid Ohio Pharmacist License in good standing
- Certification Requirements:
- BLS through AHHA/American Red Cross (certification must occur within 60 days of position start)
- Licensure:
- If administering immunizations: Must hold completed immunizer course (approved by Ohio Boards of Pharmacy or within 90 of hire).
Preferred Qualifications
- Board Certification in relevant specialty
- PGY-1 residency or post PGY fellowships/APhA programs
- PGY-2 certification(s) in critical/oncology/municipal specialty would be advantageous
- Certification(s) in advanced techniques such as insulin syndrome or hydration therapy (an advantage over-appreciated)
- Prior Inpatient experience as a New Admits pharmacist or Consultant is strongly preferred.
Physical Demands
- Standing and Walking (up to 75% of shift time)
- Manual Dexterity required for dispensing and ordering systems
- Ability to lift/harvest up to 30 lbs.
- Daily use of heavy-controlled equipment: telescoping pumps, patient cars, medical file bins
- Visual clarity and clarity of action (eyeglasses required)
- Ability to move fluidly between Pharma, nursing wellness, and care-panel documentation spaces
