Clinical Practice Development Nurse
Senior Practice Development Nurse (Band 7) – Critical Care (Band 7 & PDN)
About the Role
The Chelsea and Westminster Intensive Care Unit (ICU) provides specialist care for critically ill patients across level 2 and level 3 beds, including a burns specialism. Part of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, one of England’s top-performing and safest trusts, we offer a supportive, educational-focused working environment where staff development is a priority.
We seek an experienced critical care nurse to join our team as a Practice Development Nurse (Band 7). Your role will include educational leadership, clinical mentorship, and coordinator of development initiatives for all ICU staff while maintaining the highest compassionate, expert care standards.
Key Responsibilities

Education & Training:
- Provide excellent education to the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) within critical care
- Coordinate and support staff development across the ICU
- Work collaboratively with cross-site colleagues to design and implement in-house training programs for critical care staff

Clinical Expertise:
- Act as a clinical role model for expert critical care practices
- Deliver sound clinical expertise to the ICU team
- Lead specific clinical projects assigned by the Senior Practice Development Nurse (SPDN), Matron, or Lead Nurse

Staff Development & Support:
- Ensure a developmental, educational, and supportive work environment
- Identify and promote advanced nursing and teaching skills within the Trust
- Ensure staff are equipped to deliver a safe, effective, and high-quality service
- Remain aware of emerging developments across critical care

Requirements
- Qualification and significance to the Doctorate of Nursing Practitioner (DNP) or a new Master’s qualification in critical care.
- Extensive experience as a critical care nurse
- Excellent teaching, coaching, and mentoring skills
- Strong understanding of national and international guidelines in critical care practice
- Proven ability to drive educational initiatives and support team development
