Opportunity for a Qualified Clinical Psychologist
The Greater Manchester Primary Care Mental Health Treatment Requirement service has a new and exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated qualified Clinical Psychologist. The MHTR service supports vulnerable adults in contact with the criminal justice system and provides a meaningful alternative to short custodial sentences, through addressing vulnerabilities that underlie offending behavior. We work closely with external agencies including probation to support a systemic approach to mental health difficulties in this population.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide support across all areas of Greater Manchester, requiring the ability to travel across the whole footprint.
- Hold a caseload, providing assessment, formulation, and intervention to people who have been sentenced to a primary care MHTR.
- Be involved in supporting and developing risk formulation and support the risk management of people accessing the service.
- Work with other agencies, predominantly those working in the criminal justice system.
- Deliver supervision to assistant psychologists in the team, with the potential for offering trainee placements.
- Deliver training both internally and externally.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
