Clinical Quality Assurance and Practice Development Lead (MH&LD) - INTERNAL
# Job Overview
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE WILL ONLY ACCEPT APPLICATIONS FROM STAFF CURRENTLY EMPLOYED BY HYWEL DDA HEALTH BOARD
Hywel Dda University Health Board is looking for an experienced, motivated and compassionate clinical leader to take up a newly developed role at the heart of our Mental Health & Learning Disabilities (MH&LD) Clinical Care Group: Clinical Quality Assurance and Practice Development Lead.
This is a pivotal post for anyone who wants to make a tangible difference to the safety and quality of mental health and learning disability services across West Wales. You will lead the design, implementation and continuous improvement of our quality assurance, incident learning and practice development systems — working across community, crisis, inpatient and liaison settings, and across the full age range from children through to older adults.
You will work closely with senior clinical and operational leaders, including direct engagement with the Assistant Director of Nursing and wider governance structures, to ensure that learning from incidents, audits and patient feedback translates into real, sustained improvements in frontline practice.
This is a role for someone who is as comfortable building relationships and coaching ward-based staff as they are presenting analysis and assurance to senior governance audiences.
If you are passionate about patient safety, evidence-based practice and genuine co-production with people who use our services and their families, we would welcome your application.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
