Federation / Research Fellowship (NMC/UBE) in Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI) & Intracoronary Imaging
About the Role
The fellowship post is directly linked to the British Orbital Atherectomy Registry (BOAR), which aims to evaluate the contemporary utilisation and outcomes of the Orbital Atherectomy System (OAS) for treating severe coronary calcification, guided by optical coherence tomography (OCT) in the UK. The study began enrolment in Q4 2025, with anticipated recruitment over 2 years and 1-year clinical outcomes tracking.
This real-world registry will provide critical insights into OAS treatment of severely calcified coronary disease and the role of OCT in optimising PCI outcomes. The fellowship will be hosted at the academic Bristol Heart Institute, under the direct supervision of Dr Tom Johnson, Associate Professor of Cardiology.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
