- Contract Type: Fixed-term training contract
- Duration: 12 months (with possibility for extension)
- Hours: Part-time (20/week)

This role is designed for clinical doctors (e.g., in oncology, radiology, nuclear medicine, or translational clinical research) seeking hands-on experience in MRT trial delivery, diciplinary training, and academic collaborations.
About the Role
The post will support a growing portfolio of MRT clinical trials linked to new NIHR Capital Investment in a dedicated MRT Research Delivery Unit. Working closely with Oncology, Medical Physics, Radiopharmacy, and Research & Development teams, the postholder will accelerate trial recruitment, setup, and safe delivery of innovative therapies.
The fellowship is 20 hours per week and focused on:
- Training in Good Clinical Practice, Radiation Safety, MRT Dosimetry, and Trial Governance
- Delivering patient-centred pathways to ensure rapid yet compliant trial execution
- Developing expertise in multidisciplinary trial coordination involving complex therapies
- Collaborating with national research networks to advance molecular radiotherapy
Key Responsibilities
Patient Recruitment & Support
- Identify, screen, recruit, and follow up patients across MRT research protocols under supervised clinical judgement.
- Safely coordinate with Oncology, Nuclear Medicine, Medical Physics, Palliative Care, and Research Nurses for trial delivery, including complex therapies.

Research Contribution
- Contribute to duticals, publications, standards, outcomes & funding papers as part of the MRT consortium and UHS research network.
- Engage in dosimetry studies, academic collaborations, and translational research, supporting the development of novel radiotherapeutics.
Trial Operational Excellence
- Ensure adherence to MRT-specific dosimetry pathways, radiation safety protocols (IRMECR, IRPER), and regulatory compliance (GCP, governance standards).
- Maintain comprehensive data recording, audit trails, and quality improvement processes within research records.

Salary & Appointment Criteria
Salary Grade & Progression
- Basic pay aligned to Nodal Point 5, subject to contract terms equivalent to Trust-appointed fellows.
- Payment includes contractual allowances where applicable (weekends, additional hours).
Eligibility
- Minimum requirements for Nodal 5 eligibility:
- 6 years+ Specialty Training
- Higher qualification (e.g., FRCP, FRCA, FRCS).
- Evidence of portfolio-critical progression in nominatory curriculum.
Qualifications & Skills
Essential
- MBBS/MBChB or equivalent registration with the GMC (full licence).
- Sound judgement evaluating medical cases.
- Ability to work multidisciplinary clinic collaboration.
- Legal & compliance requirements: adherence to NHS Information Governance, DS, and radiation safety laws (ISS/IRRMR).

Desirable
- Post-Cavenet experience (e.g., senior Foundation Program) candidates and specialty-specific certifications (BSc/MSc/PHD in nuclear medicine, oncology or clinical research).
- Experience in clinical trials, patient-centred research (over 2 years).
- Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), IRMer, and radiation safety protocols.
Personal Attributes

- Self-learning/invention with research design computations (flintly in GCP).
- Proven ability to adjust in fast-paced research environments.
- IT competency: comprehensive use of CUPPAMI software and, where appropriate, specialist research management systems.
