Clinical Science Liaison (CSL) – Medical Affairs (Varian Interventional Oncology)
About the Role

This role, embedded in the Medical Affairs Department of the Varian Interventional Oncology (VIO) business unit, focuses primarily on providing critical case support and clinical education.
Overview
Due to growing demands across the United Kingdom (UK) and European Union (EU), we are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Science Liaison (CSL) for a 100% field-based position, requiring regular travel throughout the UK.
Role Responsibilities
Key Objectives in Clinical Support & Education

Case Support:
- Provide elite clinical support primarily in the UK
- Ensure awareness of the entire VIO product portfolio
- Collaborate with the CSL team, sales team, and logistics to guarantee availability of VIO products and ancillary components for scheduled cases
- Volunteer support for cases in territories outside your designated area as needed
- Submit case-support documentation on time

Physician & Hospital Training & Education:
- Train physicians and hospital staff on interventional oncology (IO) techniques and product usage
- Educate on technical best practices when needed

On-Site Clinical Support:
- Offer on-site assistance during procedures (maintaining a hands-off attitude regarding direct patient interaction)

Training Coordination & Delivery:
- Assess customer and internal training needs with engineering and medical teams
- Develop relevant instructional material using resources like Operators Manuals and Device Field Updates (DFUs)
- May lead or coordinate training sessions (e.g., seminars, trade shows, or customer events with a technical focus)
- Provide live demo support at local/regional event engagements

Strategic Collaboration
- Partner with VIO Medical Affairs and cross-functional teams to deliver real-world evidence, project deliverables, and scientific insights
- Assist Medical Education, Medical Information, and Medical Science Liaisons in project execution
- Communicate competitive product performance insights to leadership, sales, or engineering via marketing or engineering MQTRs
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- Bachelor’s Degree in medical, life science, or related field (preferred)
- 5–10 years of experience in medical or scientific support roles within the life science industry
- Preferred background as an IR/CT Technician, Operating Room Nurse, or Surgical Technician
- Hands-on Interventional Radiology (IR) suite knowledge or experience supporting tissue ablation procedures
- Confident understanding of operating room protocols and sterile techniques
- Proficiency in UK/EU medical regulations (e.g. GDPR, healthcare advisor rules) and industry ethics/compliance frameworks
- Dynamic work environment adeptness—ability to adapt, resolve issues, and offer creative problem-solving under high pressure
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (particularly for absence notices, close-out reports, and clinical/marketing content)
- Detail-oriented, with self-motivated, autonomous, and high-accountability traits
