Staff Rota Administrator – Emergency Quadrant & Emergency Department

About the Role
With support from Senior Managers and Clinicians, the post-holder will be responsible for the daily operational management of medical staffing issues and rota coordination.
The role focuses on:
- Developing, coordinating, and managing all medical rotas within the directorate (primarily the Emergency Quadrant (EQ) and Emergency Department).
- Acting as part of the Unscheduled Care (USC) Management Team, with oversight from the Medical Workforce Department.
Main Responsibilities
Core Duties & Tasks
The successful candidate will:
- Maintain a strong understanding of junior medical working patterns and the Terms and Conditions for staff rotation.
- Oversee day-to-day administration of medical staffing in the ED/EQ, including:
- Prospective cover arrangements
- Proactively managing ** manquantes shortages** (for both on-call and ward-based duties)
- Collaborating with Senior Managers, Consultant medical staff, junior medical teams, and the Medical Staffing Department to implement solutions.
- Produce monthly duty rosters for all medical and management staff in the Emergency Quadrant and manage Out of Hours (OOH) rotations (medical and administrative).
- Engage in ad hoc projects as required, aligned with grade responsibilities.
- Ensure efficient, compliant, and adaptable staff scheduling to meet operational needs.

Additional Requirements
- A practical knowledge of healthcare workforce administration is essential.
- Desire to work in an environment-led role where flexibility and patient-focused decision-making are key.
- Ability to verbally and in writing liaise across all levels (consultant to junior doctor) with professionalism.

Person Specification
Education
Essential:
- Degree-level qualification OR equivalent significant experience.
Desirable:
- ** Leadership/management qualification**, e.g. ILM Level 4 or NEB qualifications.
Professional
Essential:
- Experience in Allocation of Staff Resources
- Experience in Developing Staff Rotas
Desirable:
- Past experience working with clinical/medical staff.
Personal
Essential:
- Advanced ability to coordinate & adjust complex schedules at short notice.
- Aptitude to communicate clearly with all staff grades (Consultants through to Foundation Doctors).
Desirable:
- Prior experience working in a hospital/hospital department or with NHS/ healthcare professionals.
