Clinical Specialty Lead – Urology, Gynaecology, Robotics & Breast Oncology Surgery

Based Onsite – Cromwell Hospital, Kensington, SW5 0TU

Permanent / Full time (37.5 hours)

Hours on a rota with a mixture between: 7:30-15:30/ 9:00-17:00/ 13:00-21:00

As our Clinical Specialty Lead for Urology, Gynaecology, Robotics and Breast Oncology Surgery, you'll provide visible clinical and operational leadership across a specialist theatre service, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality care.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Theatre Practitioner, Registered Nurse, or Operating Department Practitioner to lead a highly skilled team while remaining clinically active. With a 70% clinical and 30% operational focus, you'll influence service development, drive quality improvements, and support the continued growth of our specialist surgical services.

How you'll help us make health happen

  • Lead the day-to-day operational management of Urology, Gynaecology, Robotic Surgery, and Breast Oncology theatre services.
  • Provide clinical leadership and expert perioperative support, acting as a role model for excellence in patient care.
  • Manage staffing, skill mix, rotas, theatre utilisation, and resource allocation to ensure safe and efficient service delivery.
  • Collaborate with consultants and multidisciplinary teams to optimise theatre lists, patient flow, and service performance.
  • Ensure compliance with NATSSIPs, WHO Surgical Safety Checklists, infection prevention standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support recruitment, induction, mentoring, and ongoing professional development of theatre staff.
  • Lead and participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, incident investigations, and governance activities.
  • Maintain oversight of equipment, consumables, implants, and specialist instrumentation to support service delivery.
  • Build strong relationships with consultants and key stakeholders to support the delivery of an exceptional patient experience.
  • Contribute to service development projects, business planning, and the implementation of new ways of working across theatres.
  • Participate in the on-call rota and weekend working as required.

Key Skills / Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (Adult or Children's) or Operating Department Practitioner with relevant professional registration.
  • Significant perioperative experience, including a minimum of four years in a senior theatre position.
  • Strong clinical experience within surgical theatres, ideally including Urology, Gynaecology, Robotics, or Breast Surgery.
  • Demonstrable leadership experience with responsibility for service delivery, staffing, and operational performance.
  • Experience managing resources, clinical audits, incidents, risk, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Teaching, mentoring, and staff development experience.
  • Current ALS or EPALS certification, or willingness to achieve this within the first six months.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Knowledge of perioperative best practice, including CQC requirements, NICE guidance, AfPP standards, NATSSIPs, and GIRFT principles.
  • Degree-level qualification, management qualification, or Surgical First Assistant experience would be advantageous.
