Clinical Support Worker (Band 2) – NHS Ayrshire & Arran

Position: Clinical Support Worker

Location: North West Area Centre

Contract Terms: Permanent (full-time)

Hours: 36 hours/week (0900–1700)

Job Sharing: Considered for this role.

Note: From 1 April 2026, NHS Scotland will reduce full-time working hours to 36 (from 37), with no loss of earnings.

Essential Certification:

  • Valid UK driving licence required.

Key Responsibilities (Core Duties)

  • Provide comprehensive support to clinical and administrative teams, assisting with:
    • Preparing the clinical area.
    • Preparing dental materials under the direct/indirect supervision of a Registered Dental Nurse.
  • Handle reception and administrative duties for clinicians.
  • Ensure effective delivery of care by supporting the Registered Dental Nurse and Clinicians, maintaining an acceptable standard of service.
  • Maintain Control of Infection procedures in dental surgeries and other locations, including:
    • Cleaning and decontamination of surgery fixtures and equipment.
    • Laboratory tasks and sterilising dental instruments.

Requirements

Essential:

✔ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (both verbal and written). ✔ Experience working in a caring environment/role with the public. ✔ Ability to work as part of a large team. ✔ Proven ability to carry out tasks effectively in a busy environment while adhering to job requirements.

Desirable:

✔ Experience with dental paperwork and experience using Microsoft Office applications. ✔ Familiarity with cash handling.
