Clinical Team Leader (Band 7) – Mental Health Support Team (MHST)
Job Overview
Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust delivers Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR), providing critical early intervention and preventative mental health support within education settings.
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Clinical Team Leader (Band 7) to provide operational and clinical leadership across our MHST service in:
- Melton & Rutland Locality
- Hinckley Locality
- Loughborough Locality
This pivotal senior role within a growing, nationally recognised early intervention programme will require you to:
- Lead large, skill-mixed interdisciplinary teams delivering evidence-based interventions to children and young people (CYP) with mild to moderate mental health needs
- Shape service delivery across education and community systems
- Drive operational and clinical excellence within fast-paced environments
Ideal candidates will be confident and resilient leaders with substantial experience in:
- Managing large, complex, multi-disciplinary teams
- Providing high-quality clinical supervision
- Delivering against KPIs and quality standards
- Using and interpreting data to inform decision-making
- Managing stakeholder relationships across systems
- Implementing and embedding meaningful change
A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle during working hours is essential.
About the Service
Our LLR MHST service operates as part of the national early intervention scheme, commissioned following the 2017 Green Paper: Transforming Children and Young People’s Mental Health Provision.
Key Service Components
- Delivers evidence-based early intervention for CYP with mild to moderate mental health difficulties
- Embeds a Whole School Approach to emotional wellbeing
- Collaborates with education settings, families, and system partners
- Supports prevention, early identification, and reduced escalation to specialist services
You will contribute to the growth and expansion of this nationally recognised programme, playing a crucial role in shaping early intervention at a local level.
The service operates Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm (excluding Bank Holidays) with flexible working arrangements available.

Core Duties
As the Clinical Team Leader, you will provide operational and clinical leadership to ensure the safe, effective, and high-quality delivery of MHST interventions.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Manage day-to-day operations of large, skill-mixed teams
- Oversee team performance against KPIs and quality schedules
- Collaborate on workforce planning, caseload management, and risk assessment
- Drive service development and continuous improvement initiatives
Clinical Leadership
- Provide robust clinical supervision and mentoring
- Maintain high standards of clinical governance and safeguarding
- Hold a reduced (but complex) clinical caseload, including mental health assessments
- Support staff development, capability, and mental resilience
System & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and sustain strong relationships with education leaders and system partners
- Champion the Whole School Approach to mental health and wellbeing
- Lead integrated pathway development across services
- Ensure children and young people, alongside families, are central to service co-design
- Present findings and implement evidence-driven improvements
You will work closely with Service Managers, Clinical Leads, and senior colleagues to ensure the consistent delivery of an effective early intervention programme.
Person Specification
Essential Requirements
We are seeking a leader who demonstrates:
- Significant experience in operational management within mental health or CYP services
- Experience in supervising and developing clinicians
- Competency in data analysis, reporting, and performance tracking
- Ability to implement and embed transformative change
- Effective writing and stakeholder communication
- Professional resilience, adaptability, and sound judgement
- A track record of building and sustaining high-performing teams
Additional qualities include:
- A passion for early intervention in mental health
- Strong collaborative working skills
- Ability to navigate dynamic, multi-agency environments

Working Arrangements
- Substantive roles require a 6-month probationary period (except medical staff)
- Workplace availability is universal within LLR boundaries
