General Therapy Assistant 12 Month FTC Location: Glasgow Salary: £27,476 per annum FTE Hours: 28 hours per week

MAIN PURPOSE
To work as part of a multi/interdisciplinary team to support the rehabilitation of people we support with acquired brain injury, working on specific therapy programmes devised and supervised by the clinical team.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical / Professional Practice
- To work with people we support as guided by the registered therapist(s) across all disciplines i.e. occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech, and language therapy, in order to meet outcomes/goals.
- To enable, guide and support our people we support with acquired brain injuries in the performance of daily living skills and impairment level therapy activities on the unit, in their own homes and in the community.
- To assist the people we support to practice, reinforce, and generalise specific skills and behaviours. The range may include but is not limited to the following: kitchen skills, personal care, indoor and outdoor mobility, transfers, cognitive re-training, upper limb exercises, speech and language exercises, safe swallowing, and social communication practice.
- To promote effective communication with people we support, relatives, carers, and colleagues. Accurately relaying relatives/carers comments to the clinical team. Assist people we support in maintaining effective communications, and when necessary to provide people we support with the means to express, using alternative and augmentative communication systems if necessary.
- To promote positive reinforcement of socially acceptable behaviours and model appropriate boundaries whilst maintaining a consistent approach.
- To provide assistance to and support the clinical team in the planning and delivery of individually tailored therapeutic programmes of care and rehabilitation.
- To consistently follow therapeutic programmes as designed by the clinical team, gain informed and valid consent and provide detailed feedback and monitoring and take an active role feeding into the assessment and evaluation of the programme.
- To contribute to risk assessments and be aware of the need to follow guidance and to consult with the clinical team before making changes to any programme.

ABOUT YOU:
- Educated to GCSE level or QCF Level II or equivalent in recognised health and social care qualifications.
- A good understanding of the different clinical roles within the multidisciplinary team
- Ability to communicate at all levels, both written and oral and using a variety of media. Qualification or relevant experience in IT skills using Microsoft Office, in particular Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Previous experience of working within a rehabilitation setting or equivalent spheres of operation. e.g. in intermediate care, within a social services team or on a rehabilitation ward in a hospital or a good understanding of rehabilitation principles.
- To evidence and demonstrate the ability to work under the direction of a team. Ability to understand and implement national and local policies and procedures, equal opportunities, and relevant Code of Ethics at a level appropriate to the job.
- IT skills including the ability to open and send emails using Outlook, the ability to use Microsoft office and the ability to navigate the internet.
