Clothing Technologist
Garment Technologist Location: Cheltenham Head Office
About &SONS

We're looking for a Garment Technologist who is passionate about product development, has a keen eye for quality and fit, and is excited to develop their skills while helping bring the &SONS collection to life.
Role and Responsibilities
Product Development
-
Support the brand founder in developing high-quality products.

Ensure the brand founder’s quality expectations are delivered within agreed lead-times.

Take ownership of an assigned product area, encompassing the entire development process from design to delivery:

Advise the brand founder and designer on fabric selection and product construction.

Create the GT tech pack and technical specifications for the product.

Ensure fit aligns with the company body sizing chart and existing pattern blocks.

Issue the tech pack and specifications to the relevant factory and monitor sample progress.

Chase prices, lead times and minimum order quantities (MOQs) from the factory.

Collaborate with fabric technicians to maintain the fabric library and request any new fabrics for future seasons.

Product Management
- Manage the block pattern library for your assigned product area:
- Request patterns from suppliers and use Browswear for pattern amendments.
- Measure and assess garment fit, issuing technical corrections to the factory while maintaining Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Review and approve:
- Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) reports prior to shipping.
- Test reports in accordance with the testing manual.
- Strike-off submissions for approval.
- Assess product risks and coordinate wearer trials when necessary.

- Supply the marketing team with product information and garment sizing for the website.
- Engineer garments to meet the target price when required, advising the design team to ensure production-friendly construction.
- Collaborate with the Head Garment Technologist to determine the most suitable factory source and optimal cost price for a product.
Process & Operations

Oversee the critical path, ensuring adherence to required timelines and keeping the schedule updated with data such as sample submission dates and fibre compositions.

Work with suppliers to ensure production remains on track, attending weekly meetings with merchandising and operations teams.

Maintain effective file management, filing strike-offs and factory submissions.

Work with the fabric technologist to maintain fabric libraries and request new fabric sourcing if required.

Organise and maintain samples tidily.

Collaborate with the Circular Garments Assistant and Customer Service team to review faulty returns, and work with factories to improve product durability.

Address customer queries regarding fit and quality with the Customer Service team.
Additional Tasks & Project Work

Research and source fabrics and components for CMT (Cut, Make, Trim) suppliers.

Assist with various projects, such as:
- Conducting sizing research.
- Undertaking competitor benchmarking.
- Exploring sustainability initiatives.

Perform research on competitor fit, fabric and design.
-
Attend trade shows for sourcing and fabric research.

Visit factories to approve products and maintain supplier relationships.
Requirements
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with the Adobe suite, particularly Illustrator.
- Browswear experience is preferred, but not essential.
- Minimum 3 years’ industry experience as a Garment Technologist or Product Developer.
- Basic knowledge of factory audits and sustainable practices would be an advantage. (This list is not exhaustive. Other general tasks may be assigned as needed.)

- Salary: £32,000 per annum
- Holiday: 30 days (22 days + 8 bank holidays), pro-rated for part-time roles.
