The Role

As a Cloud Engineer, you'll design, build and operate scalable, reliable cloud-native infrastructure and platform services. You'll work closely with software engineers, architects, and delivery teams to develop reusable platform capabilities, improve developer workflows, and implement modern DevOps practices.

This role is suited to engineers who enjoy solving complex infrastructure challenges, automating software delivery, and creating platforms that empower development teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build and operate scalable, secure cloud-native infrastructure and platform services.
  • Design, implement and optimise GitLab CI/CD pipelines and build and release workflows.
  • Build, test and maintain reusable GitLab CI/CD Components that can be adopted across multiple engineering teams.
  • Deploy, manage and troubleshoot Kubernetes clusters and containerised workloads.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure as code and automation solutions using modern DevOps practices.
  • Improve developer experience by delivering platform capabilities, automation, and self-service tooling.
  • Contribute to Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs), including technologies such as Backstage or similar developer portals.
  • Write clean, maintainable automation, including complex modular Bash scripts with reusable functions.
  • Develop and maintain unit and integration tests for platform tooling and automation.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to improve platform reliability, security, and operational excellence.

Skills and Experience

We're looking for candidates who can demonstrate experience in most of the following:

  • Designing, building and operating cloud-native infrastructure and platforms.
  • Designing, implementing and optimising GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
  • Recent experience building and supporting reusable GitLab CI/CD Components for multiple consumers.
  • Hands-on Kubernetes experience, including deployment, scaling, cluster operations, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code, automation, and DevOps best practices.
  • Experience improving developer experience through platform engineering or developer enablement initiatives.
  • Exposure to Internal Developer Platforms (such as Backstage) or developer self-service tooling.
  • Experience writing unit and integration tests across a range of programming or scripting languages.
  • Strong Bash scripting skills, including modular, reusable scripting techniques.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
