Salary Range £47,389 to £56,535 per annum

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Cloud and Hosting team at the University of Warwick and help build the future of both on premise and Cloud-hosted infrastructure.

We are seeking an individual to provide specialist technical expertise across an Azure Cloud technology platform. To lead on products, projects and tasks, across both physical infrastructure and cloud services. To work as part of a team of likeminded colleagues, to ensure that issues are resolved swiftly, technical challenges are addressed and project actions are delivered on time and services and data remain stable and highly available. To support and develop less experienced colleagues and be part of a high performing team with deep technical experience in current hosting technologies.
This position requires good experience with skills and technology, but also good exposure to working in medium to large sized enterprise environments, where communication, self-accountability and supporting a larger team has been part of a daily routine.
Duties and responsibilities
Working on digital support tasks:
- Responding to requests and incidents to meet SLA objectives of the department
- Communicating positively with users / customers, avoiding technical jargon and in a user centric manner, working as a trusted partner
- Solving technically complex challenges through use of knowledge and working with support teams
- Working with third party vendors and suppliers to deliver cohesive technical solutions
- Applying expertise to issues to ensure first time resolutions are applied where possible or escalated for additional support
- Documenting solutions clearly and accurately to a consistent standard
- Responsible for ensuring confidentiality, integrity and availability for data
- Ensuring appropriate levels of business continuity are factored into solutions
- Monitoring of systems and reacting to alerts and abnormal behaviour

Improving IT outputs:
- Identifying repeating or common issues, proposing, and implementing solutions to root cause fixes
- Identifying training needs for self and in the team around technical disciplines and advising leadership on development opportunity
- Recommending Change Requests and preparing change documentation, representing Change at Change Review Board
- Leading on managing risks around Lifecycle management of systems and services supported by the team
- Managing Capacity and forecasting, to inform planning cycle ensuring services are fit for purpose
- Promote standardised solutions, with a view to optimise and expand services where appropriate
- Automation and Orchestration to improve request fulfilment and incident response
Specialist Technical Expertise:
- Responsible for technical solutions, escalated / complex technical problems, documentation and improvement. Sharing industry insight to make forward thinking technical decisions
- Designing, Implementing and Maintaining both private and public cloud platforms
- Responsible for implementing automation and orchestration including configuration and management of Server Operating Systems
- Automation of operational aspects of the infrastructure and systems lifecycle using PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform, Azure DevOps CI/CD, and Kubernetes
- Build and maintain core infrastructure to enable scaling and support business growth
- Debugging production issues across services and levels of the stack
- Responding to incidents and problems to provide support for customer issues
- Documenting actions to turn findings into repeatable and automated processes
- Providing strong knowledge of virtualization and containerization technologies on Azure
- Knowledge of configuration management systems like Ansible and Puppet
- Providing excellent stakeholder management skills
- Mentoring and developing less experienced colleagues in the team

Person Specification
- Hold a Degree Level qualification or equivalent experience.
- Experience within a similar role within a medium to large organisation.
- Experience of providing Azure Cloud technical solutions which are focused on business outcomes and customer requirements.
- Specialist Knowledge of building and configuring Azure environments.
- Specialist Knowledge of both private and public Cloud platforms
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues
- In depth technical knowledge of product and service provision to ensure quality and value drive support
- ITIL Foundation V3/V4
- Azure Certification.
- Familiarity with Agile working practices
Please note that this is a key position to work within a busy team and a level of career experience and skill knowledge is required. Experience should be recent and within a medium to large sized technical Azure biased environment.
This position will be working on a hybrid basis (c1 – 2 Days a week in Coventry) where Warwick offers modern offices and an excellent choice of Shops, Food, Leisure and Sports / Gym facilities on a large self contained campus.
