Location: Ipswich
Working type: Hybrid - three days a week onsite
Hours of work: Full time - 37.5

Role Overview
The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and continual improvement of the organisation's hybrid IT infrastructure, leading the delivery of a cloud-first strategy across Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, and core on-premise platforms. The role ensures infrastructure services are secure, resilient, scalable, and cost-effective, while supporting innovation and enabling the organisation's wider digital transformation objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Infrastructure & Platform Engineering

  • Own, administer, and optimise Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 services
  • Drive automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) adoption
  • Lead cloud migrations, deployments, and modernisation initiatives
  • Monitor and improve performance, security, and cost efficiency

On-Premise & Hybrid Infrastructure

  • Maintain core on-premise infrastructure including servers, storage, and networking
  • Ensure seamless hybrid connectivity between on-premise and cloud environments
  • Manage Windows Server and core services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy

Networking & Connectivity

  • Support LAN/WAN infrastructure, firewalls, and VPN connectivity.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex connectivity issues across hybrid environments.
  • Ensure secure and reliable access to services

Security, Resilience & Compliance

  • Implement and maintain security best practices across all platforms
  • Ensure robust backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity capabilities
  • Support compliance with standards such as ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials
  • Drive improvements in identity security, patching, and threat protection

Service Delivery & Support

  • Provide 2nd/3rd line escalation support for infrastructure and cloud services
  • Act as a technical lead, mentoring colleagues and supporting architectural decisions
  • Maintain documentation, runbooks, and technical standards
  • Support service performance through SLAs, KPIs, and reporting

Projects & Continuous Improvement

  • Deliver infrastructure and cloud projects (migrations, upgrades, modernisation)
  • Support adoption of cloud-first and automation strategies
  • Identify opportunities to improve performance, resilience, and cost efficiency
  • Contribute to IT roadmaps and technical standards

Person Specification

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (IaaS, PaaS fundamentals)
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration
  • Experience with identity and access management (Entra ID / Azure AD)
  • Solid understanding of Windows Server and hybrid infrastructure
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, VPNs)
  • Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills

Desirable

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, Bicep)
  • Experience with monitoring tools (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics)
  • Familiarity with endpoint management such as Intune
  • Scripting/automation skills (PowerShell)
  • Understanding of ITIL frameworks
