As Cluster Chief Engineer, you’ll lead the engineering and maintenance operations across multiple hotel properties, ensuring seamless functionality, safety, and sustainability. This role is both operational and strategic: you’ll optimise technical services to elevate guest experiences while delivering operational excellence.
You’ll oversee a team of engineers, technicians, and contractors, driving cost-efficiency, compliance, and innovation. Whether it’s preventative maintenance, energy management, or capital projects, you’ll uphold the highest standards—making Montcalm’s unique heritage thrive in every detail.

Overview

Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Team Management
- Lead the engineering/maintenance strategy, driving it in line with hotel/collection goals
- Recruit, develop, and supervise a team of engineers, supervisors, and contractors
- Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and collaboration
- Provide training and development opportunities specific to building technologies, safety, and best practices
Operations & Maintenance
- Direct preventive/corrective maintenance, ensuring zero non-critical interruptions to guest services
- Implement robust preventative maintenance programs with visible, measurable outcomes
- Set quality standards: Oversee inspections and repairs across guest rooms, back-of-house spaces, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
- Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and consultants, ensuring cost-efficiency and on-time project delivery
- Optimise budget allocation, sustainining a balance betweenený cost savings and service standards
- Create anticipatory work plans based on occupancy data, evolving operational needs, and sustainability targets
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all health and safety protocols, emergency response plans, and environmental regulations
- Conduct regular safety drills and asset inspections
- Address guest feedback promptly, cultivating a proactive approach to service enhancement
- Design energy-efficient initiatives, exploring opportunities for sustainability innovation
Project & Financial Management
- Institute capital expenditure processes, balancing ROI and long-term benefits
- Lead the budgeting process for Engineering/Maintenance departments, monitoring fiscal performance
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising integrity or compliance
Guest Experience & Sustainability
- Monitor technical performance and proactively resolve issues to ensure immaculate service
- Promote wellness-focused maintenance (e.g., HVAC systems, air quality)
- Advocate sustainability, championing eco-friendly technologies and energy stewardship

Qualifications and Skills
Essential Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, facilities management, or a related discipline—preferred
- Relevant mechanical, electrical, or plumbing qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive experience in hospital operations, measurable across:
- Hospitality (experience of diverse hotels preferable)
- Technical services and maintenance
- Leadership of engineering/supervisory teams

- Excellent leadership and multi-site regional management
- Project mindset: Ability to balance outsized goals with practical execution
- Stakeholder collaboration: Work with hotel managers, external teams, and contractors seamlessly
- Proactive problem-solving: Focused on guest retention, risk minimization, and cost control
- Technical authority: Deep understanding of building systems (HVAC, fire, security, etc.)
- Regulatory compliance: Up to date with safety codes, environmental standards, and risk mitigation strategies
Working Conditions
- Flexible shifts: including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to ensure continuous cover
- High-pressured, dynamic: Handle sudden emergencies and escalate operational changes effortlessly
- Physical demands: Extended standing/locomotion and occasional manual handling (training provided where applicable)
