CNC Lathe Programmer / Setter Operator

CNC Lathe Programmer / Setter Operator Required

Our client is an established manufacturing business, producing specialist metal components and assembly solutions across multiple industries.

We are seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Programmer / Setter Operator to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for programming, setting, operating, and maintaining CNC lathes to ensure high-quality, efficient production in line with build plans.


Package

  • Rotating shift pattern: 6 am – 2 pm & 2 pm – 10 pm
  • Salary: £17 – £21 per hour (DOE)
  • Company pension scheme available
  • 20 days holiday + bank holidays

Responsibilities

  • Program, set, operate, and monitor CNC lathes to meet production targets per build plan
  • Ensure minimal machine downtime and support troubleshooting during breakdowns
  • Execute job and tool changes to maintain smooth production flow
  • Produce and secure approval for first-off and in-process quality checks in line with procedures
  • Support new product introductions by manufacturing prototypes and development parts
  • Maintain accurate production records using the Mietrak MRP system
  • Monitor tooling levels and order replacements to prevent production disruptions
  • Uphold high housekeeping standards and maintain a safe, organised 5S work environment
  • Coordinate with warehouse and FLT teams for timely finished goods movement
  • Communicate operational issues, risks, and improvement suggestions to the Team Leader
  • Assist, train, and mentor other operators, including new starters
  • Conduct clear shift handover to ensure proper machine setup and running status
  • Perform reasonable additional tasks, as directed by the Team Leader

Requirements

  • Proven experience in programming, setting, and operating CNC lathes
  • Familiarity with Haas or Dugard VMC (Fanuc controlled) machines (preferred)
  • NVQ or C&G qualification in Mechanical Engineering / CNC Setting & Programming, or equivalent experience
  • Ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings
  • Competence with engineering measuring equipment
  • Forklift licence (desirable but not essential)
  • Knowledge of abrasive wheel regulations (desirable)
  • Willingness to work flexible shift patterns
