CNC Lathe Programmer / Setter Operator Required!

Our client is an established manufacturing business, producing specialist metal components and assembly solutions to a range of industries.

On behalf of our client, we are seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Programmer / Setter Operator to join the team. The successful candidate will be responsible for programming, setting, and operating CNC lathes to ensure efficient production in line with the build plan, maintaining high-quality standards, and maximising machine utilisation and output.


Package

  • Rotating shift pattern – 6am – 2pm & 2pm – 10pm
  • £17 – £21 per hour (DOE)
  • Company pension scheme
  • 20 days holiday plus bank holidays

CNC Lathe Programmer / Setter Operator – Responsibilities

  • Program, set, operate, and monitor CNC lathes to meet production targets in line with the build plan.
  • Ensure machines run efficiently with minimal downtime and support breakdown resolution.
  • Carry out job and tool changes, ensuring smooth production flow.
  • Produce and gain approval for first-off and in-process quality checks in line with procedures.
  • Support new product introduction by manufacturing prototype and development parts.
  • Maintain accurate real-time production records using the Mietrak MRP system.
  • Monitor tooling levels and request replacements to avoid disruption to production.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards and ensure a safe, organised work area (5S).
  • Liaise with warehouse and FLT teams to ensure timely movement of finished goods.
  • Communicate issues, risks, and improvements to the Team Leader.
  • Support, guide, and assist other operators, including training new starters.
  • Ensure machines are correctly set and running with clear shift handovers.
  • Undertake other reasonable tasks within capability as required by the Team Leader.

CNC Lathe Programmer / Setter Operator – Requirements

  • Experience in programming, setting, and operating CNC lathes.
  • Knowledge of Haas or Dugard VMC (Fanuc controlled) preferred.
  • NVQ or C&G in Mechanical Engineering / CNC Setting & Programming (or equivalent experience).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings.
  • Competent in the use of engineering measuring equipment.
  • Forklift licence (desirable but not essential).
  • Knowledge of abrasive wheel regulations (desirable).
