At McLaren Racing, we believe only by chasing performance in everything we do can we give ourselves the best chance of success. Performance on track and in the factory. Performance for our people, our business and our partners. It’s about more than winning. It’s about hitting the highest standards, and then raising the bar again.

Purpose of the Role:

As a Support Machining Technician, you will play a key role within the machine shop, supporting Manufacturing Engineering and Machinists to enable efficient, high-quality production. You will be responsible for building and pre-setting tooling assemblies, preparing machines, and supporting the manufacture of precision components used in high-performance racing cars. This is a hands-on position where your contribution will directly impact the delivery of critical upgrades and projects, helping push the limits of performance on track while maintaining the highest quality standards.

What You’ll Do:

  • Build and pre-set tooling assemblies in line with production requirements.
  • Manage and maintain the tooling vending system, ensuring availability of required tooling.
  • Prepare CNC machines, including setting up jigs, fixtures, and spindle tooling, and support the operation of multi-axis CNC machinery.
  • Work closely with metal stores to prepare and deliver raw materials.
  • Maintain accurate inspection and tooling records for all produced components.
  • Contribute to shop floor workflow management alongside Team Leaders and Shift Leads, and support hand finishing activities when required.
  • Follow TPM schedules to ensure machines are maintained to a high standard.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
