Fabrication Specialist & CNC Machinist – Boeing Sheffield

We are seeking Fabrication Specialists and CNC Machinists, reporting into the Operations Manager, to join one of our Shift teams.


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Setting up and operating a range of Mill-turn, Twin Turret, Grinding, or Sliding head machines, including machining centers, by installing and adjusting work holding, tooling, and tool wear offsets.
  • Efficiently and productively loading and safely operating CNC machines while minimising downtime.
  • Managing multi-task operations, including running multiple machines/setups.
  • Recognising, deploying, and correctly applying inserts, work-holding fixtures, and tooling.
  • Identifying production process tool wear, ensuring timely adjustment/replacement of damaged or worn cutting tools.
  • Verifying programs and settings using measuring/inspection equipment and making quality adjustments as needed.
  • Providing timely feedback to the Line Manager on operational issues and recommending process/quality improvements.
  • Electronically recording all operations on machine tools and maintaining daily results.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement activities within the machining section.
  • Ensuring adherence to daily/weekly/monthly maintenance tasks and housekeeping standards.
  • Complying with company procedures at all times.
  • Supporting ad-hoc tasks as required across production and manufacturing areas.
  • Ensuring health, safety, and environmental compliance, reporting risks proactively and managing them responsibly.
  • Training and mentoring juniors, apprentices, or less experienced machinists.

Basic Qualifications (Required)

  • Skilled engineer with proven CNC machine operation experience.
  • Strong numeracy, literacy, and IT skills.
  • Effective communication—able to express yourself honestly, professionally, and respectfully, with strong listening skills.
  • Understanding of workshift and tool wear compensation/offsets.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency in basic mathematical computations (trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, etc.).
  • Experience with daily cleaning/light maintenance of machinery.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired)

  • Experience working with tight tolerances across different materials.
  • Competency in cutting tool application and complex fixtures.
  • Ability to troubleshoot machining processes independently.
  • Completion of training/mentoring roles.
  • Background in sub-contract machining environments (especially aerospace preferred, but others like medical, nuclear, or automotive also considered).
  • FLT (First Licence Training) certification (desirable).
  • Strong focus on reducing setup/machining time via process improvements.
  • Aerospace machining experience aligned with AS9100 standards, or equivalent in other highly regulated industries.
  • Alternative qualifications:
    • Previous CNC machinist experience, or
    • HNC in Machining/Engineering (minimum).
