CNC Machinist – Role at Boeing Sheffield

We’re seeking highly skilled CNC Machinists to join dynamic shift teams as problem solvers, team players, and adaptive professionals.
About the Role
Title: CNC Machinist
Department: Operations Reports To: Operations Manager
This is a full-time, shift-based position in Sheffield, UK.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Setup, Changeover & Operation: -install and adjust work holding, tooling, and detects Mill-turn/Twin-Turret, Grinding, and Sliding head machines, as well as maching centers -load and satisfy operate machines efficiently to minimise downtime -run multiple setups (multitasking) on multiple machines
- Tooling & Maintenance: -recognise and deploy inserts, work holding, and complex tooling -identify tool wear and adjust/replace cutting tools in a timely, efficient manner -perform regular maintenance tasks (daily, weekly, monthly)
- Quality & Inspection: -verify programs and settings using measuring/inspection equipment -apply adjustments to ensure component accuracy -record and document process operations electronically
- Continuous Improvement: -represent technical issues and improvements to the production manager -contribute to process optimization efforts across the machining section
- Adherence & Versatility: -maintain high standards of housekeeping in production areas -follow all company procedures and corporate safety protocols -support ad-hoc tasks across manufacturing or related business units
- Training & Leadership: -train and mentor junior machinists and apprentices -safely oversee subcontractor process work
- Safety & Risk Management: -actively manage and mitigate health, safety, and environmental risks -address any process anomalies with due diligence

Preferred Skills & Qualifications
Basic Qualifications (Required)
- Time-served engineer with significant hands-on experience in CNC machine setup, operation, and programming
- Solid numeracy and literacy skills
- Basic IT fluency (use of machine interfaces, inspection tools, record-keeping software)
- Strong communication skills: honest, professional, inclusive, and responsive to collaboration
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, machine programs, and shifting tooling offsets
- Practical mathematical application (trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions)
- Regular machine cleaning & maintenance as part of daily/weekly operations
Desired (Preferred)
- Experience with tight tolerances in aerospace/metallic/medical-grade materials
- FLT licence ( Casa Part 147 certificate) is beneficial
- Aerospace machining (AS9100 experience); or alternate high-regulated industry exposure (e.g. nuclear, automotive)
- Self-directed troubleshooting capability to resolve machinery issues without supervision
- Speed-based improvements: reducing setup/machining times through process optimisation
Additional Requirements
- Legal UK work authorisation: No visa sponsorship or relocation assistance covered for this role
- Proximity/readiness: Candidates must reside in or near Sheffield due to no relocation assistance
