The Vacancy
This is a shift-based job share role, working 16 hours per week.
Purpose of the Role
To set, operate, and maintain CNC multi-tasking lathes, manufacturing precise components from bar stock for internal assembly lines—achieving highest quality and on-time delivery.
Duties & Responsibilities
- CNC Operations: Set up and operate CNC multi-tasking lathes to turn out small to medium batches of parts on schedule.
- Quality Control: Inspect workpieces against engineering drawings using precision measurement tools. Report any defects to the machine shop supervisor.
- Machine Maintenance: Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly checks, uphold 5S housekeeping standards, and promptly report operational issues to supervision.
- Process Optimisation: Identify ways to reduce set-up and cycle times, monitor tool life, and enhance operational efficiency.
- Post-Processing: De-burr, clean, and conduct final inspections before completing traceability documentation.
- Versatility: Perform other reasonable duties as requested.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- GCSE (or equivalent) in English & Maths: Grade C/4 or above, or relevant professional experience.
Technical Knowledge & Experience
- Proven ability to operate CNC machine tools.
- Minimum of 4-axis CNC lathe experience.
- Proficiency in Fanuc-based programming (reading & editing).
- Strong skills in interpreting engineering drawings and using precision measurement tools (e.g., micrometers, hereometers, CMMs).

Physical Capability
- Must possess the physical strength and capability to carry out manual labour tasks, including:
- Lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Desirable Qualities
- Experience on twin-spindle machines.
- Familiarity with AS9100 aerospace quality standards.
