AFT Fluorotec is growing its sliding head cell and we're looking for an experienced operator, setter, and programmer to join a full-time team producing precision components in PTFE and other engineering plastics. You'll work across a range of machine sizes within the cell, with genuine opportunity to develop your skills and progress as the business expands.
This is a hands-on production role within an AS9100D accredited manufacturer. You'll be working alongside a skilled and supportive engineering team who will back you as you build on your sliding head experience.
We're looking for someone with proven experience operating sliding head (Swiss type) lathes, whether CNC or cam operated, and who is confident working across different machine sizes and capabilities. Setting experience is essential, and programming experience - whether conversational or CAD/CAM - would set you apart from other candidates. You should be comfortable reading and working from engineering drawings and specifications, and have a strong understanding of tolerances, finishes, and quality standards in precision manufacture. Experience machining plastics or engineering polymers is a real advantage.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
