The post holder will work as an autonomous Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Medical Dermatology service, providing expert nursing care and specialist advice to patients with chronic inflammatory skin diseases.
The clinical nurse specialist will lead and support nurse-led services for patients receiving systemic therapies, biologic treatments, and phototherapy. The role will involve holistic assessment, disease monitoring, patient education, therapeutic management, and coordination of care for patients with complex dermatological conditions including psoriasis, eczema, acne, hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), and other inflammatory skin disorders.
The post holder will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centred care across outpatient and day treatment settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced dermatology care through autonomous nurse-led clinics, delivering holistic assessment, treatment planning, and management for patients with complex skin conditions.
- Lead biologic, advanced therapy, and phototherapy services, including patient screening, education, monitoring, and follow-up.
- Monitor patients receiving systemic immunosuppressants, interpret laboratory results, identify risks, and implement appropriate clinical actions in line with local protocols.
- Develop, implement, and audit clinical guidelines and protocols in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
- Manage an independent caseload, coordinate referrals, maintain accurate documentation, and contribute to clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives.
- Lead and participate in audit, research, and service evaluation activities to improve care quality and ensure compliance with local and national standards.
- Contribute to workforce development through teaching and training while maintaining professional competence through continuing professional development and evidence-based practice.
