Job Description
Coastal Modeller – Bristol, UK
"Are you ready to join a team of flood risk specialists and shape the future of the Water Industry?"
Our Water team is on the lookout for a passionate Coastal Modeller to join our dynamic and rapidly growing Water Business Line. This is your chance to help deliver high profile, influential projects across the UK while working at the heart of one of the UK’s most ambitious northern engineering hubs—this time, based in Bristol.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in shaping resilient, future-proof solutions for communities, infrastructure and the environment. No two days are the same, and you’ll have every opportunity to grow, innovate, and collaborate with a team that thrives on variety.
Responsibilities
- Assist in undertaking modelling studies for a range of projects, from feasibility/option appraisal through to detailed design.
- Work collaboratively with other disciplines to support the delivery of modelling studies.
- Contribute to the development, setup and application of numerical models, including:
- Coastal and port resilience assessments.
- Environmental risk modelling.
- Sustainable water management solutions.
- Support senior team members in project delivery, including:
- Data analysis.
- Report and plan preparation.
- Ensuring tasks meet agreed budgets, programmes and quality standards.
- Contribute to technical reports and project documentation for both internal and client use.
- Liaise with internal teams, external stakeholders and clients where appropriate.
- Continuously develop technical skills and knowledge within the coastal modelling field.

Requirements
Qualifications & Technical Experience
- Degree (or Master’s) in Civil Engineering, Coastal Engineering, Marine Science, Oceanography, or a related field.
- Chartership status (e.g., with IMarEST, CIWEM) or working towards it.
- Experience (or familiarity) with coastal/ports/water projects through industry or academia; developing technical expertise.
- Proficiency in one or more of the following:
- Coastal/ports modelling using software:
- MIKE by DHI
- Delft3D
- Metocean data analysis with MATLAB/Python.
- Near-field mixing studies (CORMIX).
- Joint probability methods (following EA/Defra guidance).
- Overtopping assessments using the EurOtop Manual.
- Beach/coastal structure design with XBeach, Shingle-B.
- Multivariate analysis techniques for validating modelling results.
- Coastal/ports modelling using software:

- Strong commitment, learning agility, and enthusiasm for your profession.
- Comfort with fast-paced, deadline-driven projects requiring high technical precision.
