“Are you ready to join a team of flood risk specialists and shape the future of the Water Industry?”

AECOM’s Water business is seeking a passionate Coastal Modeller to contribute to high-profile UK and international projects from our dynamic northern engineering hub.

Your Role

Your impactful work will ensure resilient, future-ready solutions for communities, infrastructure, and the environment. Expect:

  • Modelling studies: Support from feasibility/appraisal through detailed design.
  • Collaborative projects: Work alongside multidisciplinary teams.
  • Numerical modelling: Develop, set-up, and apply — MIKE by DHI, Delft3D, MATLAB/Python, CORMIX, EurOtop (overtopping assessments).
  • Technical delivery: Assist senior team members with data analysis, reports, and client communication.
  • Innovation Growth: Develop technical expertise in coastal modelling, beach design solutions (XBeach, Shingle-B).
  • Project insights: Learn on-the-job from engaging, high-impact industry projects.

Eligibility & Requirements

Qualifications

  • Degree or Master’s degree in:
    • Civil Engineering,
    • Coastal Engineering,
    • Marine Science,
    • Oceanography, or related field.
  • Pursuing chartership (IMarEST, CIWEM).

Skills & Knowledge

Essential:

  • Experience/appreciaente in:

    • Develop/modelling tool skill sets for: ~ MIKE by DHI or Delft3D, ~ MATLAB/Python (Metocean data), ~ Near-field mixing (CORMIX subset), ~ Overtopping (EurOtop guidelines), ~ Multivariate analysis, joint probability, or ~ XBeach/Shingle-B (beach design work flows).
  • Coastal hubs: marine cities;

  • Academia/field project portfolio showcasing coastal roles.

Highly preferred:

  • Multifaceted toolset for planning—including tech equiv grief.
  • Potential to thrive— collaborative, punctual, detail-consistent.
