About The Job

Position: COBOL Programming Expert

Type: Contract

Compensation: $100–$200/hour

Location: Remote

Duration: One-week sprint

Commitment: 2–3 day pilot, then roughly a week of production work

Role Responsibilities

  • Evaluate technical tasks in COBOL against real-world professional standards.
  • Review intricate code-level situations, including database migration scenarios, and provide precise, structured written assessments.
  • Work inside containerized repositories using Docker to run and interpret programmatic and CI-style checks.
  • Provide clear written rationales explaining your expert judgments.
  • Complete well-defined, time-bounded tasks with explicit evaluation criteria.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • 5+ years of professional COBOL development on IBM mainframe (z/OS) systems.
  • Experience with JCL, CICS, VSAM, DB2 in banking, insurance, or government systems.
  • Comfort working in Linux/Docker-based repo environments.

Preferred

  • Experience with financial system backends related to data or database migration.
  • Background in banking, insurance, or government sectors.
