Role Overview

Job Title: Coffee Research Analyst

Compensation: £Competitive

Contract: Permanent

Start Date: ASAP (notice considered)

Working Arrangements

  • Hybrid model: 3 days in-office (Central London), 2 days remote
  • Hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:30 PM (37.5-hour workweek)

About the Role

Join an international commodity merchant as a Coffee Research Analyst, playing a key role in analysing and reporting on the global coffee market. This position required excellent analytical skills, close collaboration with trade teams, and a strong ability to communicate insights effectively—both to internal stakeholders and external clients.


The Role in Detail

Core Responsibilities

  • Data Coordination & Analysis:
    • Compile and synthesise external market data with internal inputs from global origination teams and merchandising centres, leveraging the firm’s advantageous industry-wide data.
    • Maintain a complex coffee-related database, ensuring up-to-date and accurate records—covering production, exports, imports, trade flows, stocks, local price differentials, and consumption trends.

  • Reporting & Insights:

    • Prepare weekly reports, detailed meeting summaries, and monthly updates for internal and external audiences (e.g., traders, clients).
    • Host and facilitate internal coffee trade meetings, setting agendas aligned with market drivers and taking minutes.
  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Develop well-researched presentations for physical and futures market traders, and sales teams across different business units.
    • Collaborate with internal agronomists and origin specialists to inform and enhance research.
  • Market Importance & Innovation:

    • Assist in analysing other soft commodities (e.g., cocoa, cotton) to identify standout methods or frameworks that could strengthen coffee analysis.

Key Skills & Attributes

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience working within a commodity trading or research environment.
  • Specific expertise in coffee markets (or similar soft commodities like cocoa/sugarcane) is critical.
  • Customer-focused mindset with the ability to tailor insights to diverse users.
  • Strong technical ability, including high-level Excel proficiency (data modelling/analysis).
  • Fluid written and verbal communications, with confidence in presenting data to senior personnel.
