Description

We are currently looking for a Collection Technician (Sculpture) to join our Arts Council Collection team on a full time fixed term contract until 31 December 2027.

This is an exciting time to join our team because we are currently preparing for one of the most important events in the Collection’s history. We are moving our two collection stores (currently in London and Yorkshire) into one pioneering storage facility in Coventry. The Collection Technician (sculpture) will work closely with the Collections team to support all aspects of the collection management and the store move to Coventry.

The annual salary stated is based on the Full-Time Equivalent (40 hours per week). If the job is part-time, the weekly hours will be stated within the advert.

Key Responsibilities

  • To case and pack the Collection to current national conservation standards and Government Indemnity Standard.
  • Assist with the installation and de-installation of Collection exhibitions. This includes long loans, temporary projects and site-specific installation.
  • Carry out Condition reports of art works as appropriate. To document and write installation instructions for artwork and update the Collection Management System of any changes including condition, location and any other necessary information.
  • To safely and competently operate a Flexi forklift and other mechanical handling equipment to manoeuver, store, and organise large-scale sculptures and heavy crating within the facility.
  • To oversee the loading and unloading of artworks onto specialist Vehicles, working to the highest standards of handling and documentation.

Skills & Experience

  • Art Handling experience, preferably working with an art collection.
  • The aptitude to learn and confidently use a collection management system specifically for location and movement control for artworks (training will be provided).
  • Demonstrable woodworking skills, ideally experience of case making.
  • Ability to demonstrate a practical and pragmatic approach to problem solving.
  • Is confident in their ability to utilise IT skills (including MS Office and Google Drive).
